Denizens: A one-page universal role-playing game system

Denizens is a one-page system flexible enough to support any type of story-based tabletop RPG experience. The system uses a simple core mechanic and character creation with the possibility for Denizens and their abilities to grow in power and complexity as their story progresses, perfect for games with anyone from kids to adults. Set off on a quest to forge a kingdom, take a catering job for a fringe political candidate, ferry illegal goods across the galaxy, and more.

• Rules-lite system is accessible for players and Game Runners of all experience levels.
• Uses a resolution mechanic that counts number of successes, as determined by the difficulty of the attempt.
• Roll 6-sided dice to attempt uncertain tasks. Results may be Exceptional, Solid, Close, or Fumbled, with successes determined by the difficulty of the roll, which may be Controlled, Risky, or Desperate.
• Grit system separates character resilience from just physical health in a simple way that raises the stakes in social and exploration encounters.
• Quick and easy startup process, with near-infinite customizability through a build-your-own skills and powers system that can fit any game theme or style.
• Skills and Powers reflect the character of the game. One table may play a soccer (football) game with Dribbling, Free Kicks, and Passing as skills and another a fantasy game with Athletics alongside Alchemy and Blunt Weapons.
• Power system allows players and Game Runners to design their own spells and powers, gaining more strength and new techniques over time as Denizens level up.
• Denizens feel more powerful over time as their Skills and Powers increase in strength, variety, complexity, and reliability.
