Minor edits + Playing with Kids
Some minor edits were made to correct some typing errors.
I've also begun a campaign using Denizens with my 5 year old. We're playing a Star Wars themed game, and it's been going great! I remember playing TTRPGs as a young child and learning so much from them, and I think Denizens can do something similar. The main reason I created Denizens was to have a setting-agnostic system that I could use to tell any type of story with my kid, so I've been excited to get that going.
Some tips:
- When making a Denizen and assigning Attribute scores, ask "which of these is your character best at?" and "which one are they not so good at?"
- When selecting skills/powers, it can be useful to just ask "what kind of things can your character do?"
- Telling them the difficulty of a roll can be helpful for setting expectations and raising the stakes. "That's really dangerous. If it goes wrong, it might be really bad." can quickly turn into a more moderate choice, or an expected consequence that doesn't ruin the mood.
